If Clinton was "Our First Black President,” was “Kerry Our First Gay Presidential Candidate“?
Remember how liberals were saying Bill Clinton was the first black president after a 1998 New Yorker article by Black feminist Toni Morrison who described Clinton as "our first black president. Blacker than any actual person who could ever be elected in our children's lifetime."
Might Kerry have been “our first gay presidential candidate.” Gayer than any actual person who could ever be elected in our children's lifetime.
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute Executive Director Matt Foreman said "John Kerry and John Edwards make up the most gay-supportive national ticket in American history," according to a CNSNews.com report.
The July 7 article said the “Task Force Policy Institute says it has analyzed Sen. John Edwards' positions on 13 issues important to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and found that while Edwards was ‘supportive’ in nine categories, his positions were "unclear" in three others.” [http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewPolitics.asp?Page=%5CPolitics%5Carchive%5C200407%5CPOL20040707d.html]
According to Chris Bull:
"If gay voters wanted a better champion than John Kerry, they'd have to invent him. The three-term senator boasts a near-perfect voting record on gay and AIDS-related causes, a record virtually unrivaled among national politicians. Kerry has gone far beyond allies who vote with the community but risk little in doing so. He has sponsored federal gay rights legislation dating to1985." But this is not the only reason Kerry and Edwards were gayer than any actual person who could ever be elected in our children's lifetime. The July 8 Drudge Report headline was that Kerry and Edwards CAN'T KEEP HANDS OFF EACH OTHER. The report said“Hugs, kisses to the cheek, affectionate touching of the face, caressing of the back, grabbing of the arm, fingers to the neck, rubbing of the knees...John Kerry and John Edwards can't keep their hands off each other! In the past 48 hours, ‘candidate handling’ has become the top buzz on the trail.News photographers have been going wild with photos of the two Johns. ‘I've been covering Washington and politics for 30 years. I can say I've never seen this much touching between two men, publicly,’ e-mailed one wire photographer.
When asked if the Johns are acting out a cynical focus group series of poses -- perhaps to show warmth to the chilly Bush/Cheney -- a Kerry spokesperson explained: ‘I think we're just seeing genuine affection between them.’”
According to a source, Kerry and Edwards despite the appearance were not gay, but as “quoted, they just genuinely like each other. They just both show it in a ‘metrosexual’ way since they're so politically correct.”
A metrosexual “is a man who seems stereotypically gay except when it comes to sexual orientation,” according to Alexa Hackbarth, “Vanity, Thy Name Is Metrosexual," The Washington Post, November 17, 2003.
